Kindergarten 2020

2020 KINDERGARTEN LAST TRANSITION DAY

Thank you for your involvement in our 2020 Kindergarten transition program. We hope your child has enjoyed their time at school as much as we have enjoyed them being a part of our school so far.

As you know, next Wednesday 20 November is the final transition day. So as we can provide the students with some additional time at school next week and incorporate activities with the Year 3 ‘buddies’, students will be at school until 1:00pm next week. As a result, in addition to students bringing their water bottle and fruit, they should also bring a packed lunch.

Parents / Carers are invited to join us at 12:30pm. We will be holding a special presentation assembly for our transition students at this time.

I have organised for the bus to collect students as normal from Dinosaurs and Cobbers Pre-schools at approximately 9:00am in the morning and the bus will then return students to the same location after departing school at 1:00pm.

Our 2020 Kindergarten students will work with their new “buddy” at stages throughout the day next Wednesday.  (Their buddy will be a current Year 3 student who will also work with the kindergarten students next year).

So as planning of school structure and classes for 2020 can continue, please ensure that you have returned your child’s enrolment form by next Wednesday 20 November at the absolute latest, along with all of the requires documentation.

In addition, if your child has health, disability or other support needs you will need to provide:

  • A copy of medical / healthcare or emergency action plans.
  • Evidence of any disability or other support needs, including any learning and support plans.

Please note that the first day of school for Kindergarten students is Tuesday 4 February 2020. We will meet in the hall at 9:00am before students go to class. Immediately after this our wonderful P&C will be hosting a special morning tea for all parents of our Kindergarten students. This will be a great opportunity to meet and network with other parents. Details will follow closer to the date.

Our 2020 Kindergarten teachers, who will include Mrs Amy Austin and Miss Kim Malivanek will be carrying out Best Start assessments with students on Wednesday 29 January, Thursday 30 January, Friday 31 January and Monday 3 February. Prior to the end of the current school year, you will receive further information about specific dates and times for this relating to your child. This is a terrific assessment carried out in all NSW Department of Education (DoE) schools for Kindergarten students providing us with an initial benchmark of student areas of strength and further development in aspects of literacy.

All students need to commence school in full school uniform. Our uniform shop is open every second Wednesday morning from 8:30am to 9:15am during school terms. In addition and for the convenience of parents, our Uniform Shop coordinator Cindy has kindly agreed to open the Uniform Shop (located in our school library) on the following dates and times:

Thursday 23 January 2:00pm-5:00pm; Friday 24 January 8:00am-11:00am,

Tuesday 28 January 9:00am – 11:00am and Wednesday 29 January 8:30am - 9:30am.

You will receive another note from the school before the end of the school year to confirm other arrangements for the 2020 school year, including confirmation of classes. Our correspondence details will be taken from the Application to enrol in a NSW Government school form (enrolment form).

I look forward to working with you all into the future and ensuring a happy, productive and inclusive start for your child at Mullumbimby Public School in 2020.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school on 6684 2373 if you would like to discuss any aspect relevant to your child’s education.

TESTIMONIALS FROM KINDY 2019 PARENTS

Hello! I’m Jessica and my son Evan is currently enrolled in Kindergarten at Mullumbimby Public School.

I would like to firstly thank and praise the school for their incredible kindergarten transition program. Evan thoroughly enjoyed his days catching the bus from pre-school and attending the Kindergarten classroom once a week for 6 weeks. This program allowed him to become comfortable with the school, the staff and the expectations of school.

He was able to enjoy activities and become familiar and comfortable with the outstanding Kindergarten Staff.
The program is highly valuable and I recommend it to any family soon to take on the journey of their child attending kindy. It takes a lot of the stress, anxiety and mystery out of a big transition in your child's life!

We are now into Term 3 at Mullumbimby Public School and Evan has enjoyed his year so far at school, he is passionate about his learning and school community. We are so grateful for the programs the school offers such as the in-school music program - He loves his weekly piano lessons!

Thank you Mullumbimby Public School.

The staff and school community make the transition and  progress of my child's education a reassuring, fun and exciting journey.

I couldn't recommend this school, the staff and the programs enough!

(Jessica – parent)

Our daughter Asha has older siblings at Mullumbimby Public School, so she was very familiar with the school grounds, the staff and students.

For her, Kindy transition was about her becoming part of the school environment.

Getting to know her teacher, her classroom, her new classmates and the school routine ahead of time was important in her gaining a sense of belonging to the 'big school' environment.

Having gone through the transition program, she started the new school year confident and happy, looking forward to this next big step and self-assured of her place in the school environment.

Fast forward to August in her first year of school, Asha is loving Kindergarten and all of the terrific learning opportunities provided by Mullumbimby Public School.
